Gusten Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I rudely enough hi-jacked someone elses post about looking for an upgrade for my Rochelle, so I figured I'd post on my own instead. I'm interested in both vintage instruments, and in used modern hybrids. Please send me a message if you might have something for me, Best regards Gusten

Are you keeping your eye on the stock at Hobgoblin I see they have a rather nice looking Lachenal 28 Key Anglo just now. I don't know if they would let you have something like that on approval for a few days, but if you saw something you really liked the look of there, it might be worth asking. If nothing else, the site at least gives you a few ideas on prices. Of course it's also well worth keeping an eye on The Box Place & keeping in touch with Chris Algar at Barleycorn, but I'm sure you are doing that anyway. Good Luck Dick

And yes, it's more likely to find something here. Just figured that if I used more hooks, I'm more lightly to catch a fish. The hobgoblin-page had slipped my mind, thanks alot for the advice. The description of the Lachenal sounds really good, but it's a bit out of my price range. I visit ebay, the box place, and various other sites daily, in my hunt for something decent within my price-range. 28 keys is really a minimum, as the main reason for upgrading is to have something better to learn playing on, and I don't want to miss out on an important key to involve in my playing. And that reminds me, I have to get back to Chris Algar. He's a real class act - almost sound reluctant when telling me about his lower priced instruments. Not because he wants to get more money from me, but because he simply wants to sell good instruments. Really good guy! Thanks for the advice. I broke another spring on my Rochelle last night (second time now), and yet I take really good care of it. Judging from youtube, I don't have a very brutal play-style neither. I hope I won't have that problem with whatever concertina I get my hands on next. Really eager to upgrade, but my wallet won't let me pay (much) more than $1,500. The customs toll is quite annoying too...

Hey Gusten, have you considered Smuggling one in? Let's face it, if the Swedish Embassy can smuggle in Aliens, I'm sure you could sneak in a wee Concertina! SWEDISH EMBASSY ~ SUSPECTED ALIEN SMUGGLING Cheers Dick

SWEDISH EMBASSY ~ SUSPECTED ALIEN SMUGGLING Cheers Dick Haha, that's great advice! I suspect traveling myself would cost quite a bit more than the tolls, so I'll need someone to do it for me. Ahhh, I'll call the Swedish Embassy in Amerika or the UK. That settles it! Again, thank you for very helpful advice!
tombilly Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Customs toll?? I would think if you buy within EU zone, you would not have customs charges? That's the way it works here in Ireland anyway. Maybe difference in sales taxes but you would likely buy a used instrument. Buying from USA etc. though attracts customs fees.

I'd check the button box web site as well, when they have used morses they often go in the $1,400-$1,500 range. They might also put you on a "wanted" list.
