wally Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Lets have your nominations for tunes that should never be played on a concertina (especially those that frequently are) For instance I do a rendition of the Eastenders theme tune, should I be publicly flogged. Wally (a nickname not a description of my personality) p.s. for those not of our culture the name Wally has become an insult indicating a person of low intelligence.

Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 For instance I do a rendition of the Eastenders theme tune, should I be publicly flogged. I'd like to hear that. What, the EastEnders theme, or Wally's screams as he's publicy flogged?

Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 The theme tune...although I'd be impressed if he could play while being flogged. This would really (reely?) be a more appropriate tune to play: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/195
Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Back on topic, how about the theme from the 70s cop show "Van der Valk" ("High Level")? That sounds incredibly cheesy on the concertina. Come to think of it, most TV theme tunes sound pretty awful on any instrument...

Glad I didn't go to one of those!
Peter Stephenson Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Wally.....Walter Scott = Clot As for no-no tunes, G-spot tornado.
Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Sounds like a Public School "thing" . Glad I didn't go to one of those! I went to Battersea Grammar, mate - that was very nearly as bad...
Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Wally.....Walter Scott = Clot Ah well, that's the polite version... A "Wally" is East End slang for a large pickled gherkin (standard accompaniment in fish & chip shops) and the "negative conotations" have to do with its size and shape...

I went to a school where all poor common folk go to It was only slightly less full of delinquents than the school down the road.
Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I went to a school where all poor common folk go to It was only slightly less full of delinquents than the school down the road. Was it "approved"?

I went to Selhurst Grammar. The site is, nowadays, better known for the BRIT School, built in the grounds of the Girls' School playing fields. It seems to be a "production line" of talent for the pop world. http://www.brit.croydon.sch.uk/

Dave Rogers Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Impressive! Is any of that downloadable music on the BRIT website suitable (or unsuitable) for playing on concertina (he asks, making a token effort to stay on topic)?
