tombilly
Still not sure I entirely follow - bidder 7 here is credited with bidding £1033 with 5 secs to go but the winner (bidding by proxy) has won by eBay bidding £1053 with 15 secs. left Bidder Bid Amount Bid Time eamonnc4757( 15) £1,053.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:45 GMT Bidder 7 £1,033.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:55 GMT If the proxy system was logical, you would think that the Proxy bidder would follow after Bidder 7, not before. What's going on - if Bidder 7 (not me btw!) decides to outwit proxy system by bidding in person up close to the line, how can a Proxy bidder beat that. It appears that the auction end time doesn't really mean an end? Edited December 28, 2008 by tombilly

It is quite simple realy as the winner had placed a much higher max bid of say £1,200 and bidder 7 tried to snipe it at the last moment but his max bid was not as high as the winners or he would have won this item . Hope this helps . Mike Edited December 28, 2008 by miikae

When you do it expands the chart to reflect that the winning bidder has been in the game for a while. It's reflected in the 19:59:45 time. Since Bidder 7 only has one bid it looks like he sat on the sidelines until the last minit to put in one bid only, (A term called sniping). Since the winning bidder put his MAX bid in first, at 59:45, and it was more than bidder 7, he won the game. eamonnc4757 £1,053.0020-Dec-08 19:59:45 GMT Bidder 7 £1,033.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:55 GMT eamonnc4757 £910.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:45 GMT Bidder 3 £890.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:53 GMT eamonnc4757 £760.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:45 GMT Bidder 6 £740.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:40 GMT Bidder 6 £731.00 20-Dec-08 19:59:40 GMT Clear as mud huh! tombilly
Ah, perhaps I see. So the winning bidder using Proxy, only entered the max bid with 15 sec. to go. I was assuming that this system would normally be used by someone who would enter their max. bid, say the day before and let ebay increase their bids automatically i.e. someone who didn't want to monitor the end of an auction. I didn't see that people might use it in the dying seconds of auction. 'Cute h**rs', we call them here - no offence meant!!
