Lawrence Reeves Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) No, still a normal sound for Cheoil. Also note that an i was added to the word changing ceol to cheoil. Gaeilge is very complex, and I am just a hack at it. Like my concertina playing. Edited December 22, 2008 by Lawrence Reeves
Larryo Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 The word ceol changed because of the "lán". It brought in the possesive...lán as was said is the Irish for "full" and translated literally( which is not s a good idea)so it is full of music, so the "of" changed ceol. But Faoi Lan Cheoil could also be considered a play on the saying Faoi Lán Sheoil which would be the Irish for "Under Full Sail" or Full Steam Ahead or "going at it"

david_boveri Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 oh man, when micheal took the concertina out of the case and gave it a quick up and down i got shivers down my spine.
david_boveri Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 You can only watch archived shows from TG4 if not resident in Ireland. The MAC address and Server for your internet must have numbers generated in Ireland. There is a work around if you have something know as a proxy server. It makes your computer appear to be in the location of the server. Now, I used to be able to record the archived shows from the website, but not in the past year. They have hidden the actual stream address ( as opposed to a video on youtube), and therefore no longer can be imported into the software. If you wait a few extra days, most of the videos from TG4 appear on youtube at this link http://uk.youtube.com/user/TG4gaeilge If anyone cracks the issue of the file location on the website Henrik Muller and I would love to have it. It has been an ongoing frustration for us, and a good topic discussed over pints. i actually have asked the user tg4gaeilge how to do just that. i will send you what he told me. i dont think it's appropriate to post such illicit things on a forum--there could be children reading!
david_boveri Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) this whole thing is making me have noel hill irish concertina school flashbacks! haha. i can even smell unforgettable odors of retreat houses and old concertinas. does anyone have any ideas what concertinas they are playing? Edited December 23, 2008 by david_boveri
Michael Reid Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 does anyone have any ideas what concertinas they are playing? Dearbhla is playing a black Morse. There's a long close-up shot of it, if I recall correctly, just before the scene with her dancing partner. That's not surprising, since Micheal is the Button Box's representative in Ireland.
Larryo Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 For those who can get TG4 by whatever means, tonight at 10pm GMT there will be a programme shown, a sort of coming together programme of all the tutors and pupils, all gathered in the one location. I gather it will be a looking back, maybe a catch up on how, if at all, people are getting on with their instruments and no doubt lots of tunes from the tutors. It will be repeated on Sat at 7.50 pm GMT and it is after the repeat that it is put up on the web and so it should be accessible from the weekend hopefully? A peaceful Christmas to everyone
Daniel Hersh Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I was happy to stumble across this on YouTube today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55VGG7Gjcec , Definitely worth watching.
Frank Dudgeon Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Daniel, Thanks so much for posting that link. That was quite a treat. Frank
ceemonster Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) [but the competitive pressure was really quite telling, even at 7 yrs age.] Two Words: "Set Dancing." not that i do it or anything, but that is where the non-competitive, fun, true spirit of irish music is to be found for the dance-oriented... i never want to see another rigidly posed, half-starved moppet or ingenue in those ridiculous ringlets again.... fearfeasog Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 the Jeremy Irons episode almost killed me. He's quite dramatic.
