Recorded Tune Link Page.

Recommended Posts

Just a note that I re-recorded the 'Winding Stream With Birds' song, added the second verse, too. I was trying to do it more slowly but it's still a bit fast...maybe better, though.

No need to change anything, the link is the same.

I've also added to my site another 'Carter Family' song, but it's really nothing like the bluegrass sound that it's 'suppose' to be!! 'Are You Tired Of Me, My Darling?' is the song. (My version is so-so, I think....)

I recently heard a really nice, recent version of that song -- on the radio show 'A Celtic Sojourn,' I think. It starts out with a tin whistle (if that's what it's called). I can't remember what group it was.

I learned these few Carter songs from a vinyl record album that we have. But, I don't really plan to keep adding more of their works, particularly, I just happened to learn a few on guitar long ago and so I'm trying them with concertina.

I'm moving my website and so in the process, all of my links are 'bad' on the Recorded Tune Link page, as of today.

I've kept all the basic file names the same, though -- just the first part has to be updated (with one other little exception).

So, everything of mine shoud now begin with:

http://bellowbelle.com/recpage/ -----------etc..

What's gone is: http://geocities.com/geranimom/

The 'exception' is the link for Still Dreaming -- that one changes on both ends....is now http://bellowbelle.com/recpage/StillDreaming.htm (not html).

(Sorry about the inconvenience, Henk!)

I am moving out of Yahoo! Geocities and to the webhost where my domain name is registered. At a glance, it seems a bit more expensive but it's really not, or not by much, and I think I'll like it better.

So....just letting you know...I'm assuming that Henk will see this post, but if not, then I'll let him know!

This is awesome. Maybe it can offer a link to Tune-o-Tron if the piece is listed there or a .pdf file with the transcription?

As a beginning concertinist, I think this would be an excellent learning tool. So often you come across tunes that you don't know but have "interesting" titles. By listening to them you can have an idea of how it should sound according to your fellow C-Netters.

'This' refers to the Recorded Tune Link Page, I assume...(sorry, took me a second to know if you meant that).

Yes, I agree!

And I'll be more grateful for other peoples' links here and there, since I will be able to store less at my new website than I have been at the one I just moved from (Yahoo! Geocities). Shall be linking left and right!

I had a better deal, in some ways, at Yahoo, but....I prefer the one I have now through beyonddomains.com (enom.com). Long story. But, for one thing, I no longer have to see the smiling unknown lady every time I log into my site (part of Yahoo! advertising, or the guy holding the bowling ball, etc. (more advertising people).

The recorded tune link page is great, for sure. Could keep you busy for hours, listening....days or weeks, maybe!

  • 1 month later...

Since the last update, a lot has happened with the links on the Recorded Tunes Link Page. A recent check on broken links showed that 23 links were broken, but most of them could be repaired. Neverteless some tunes were lost, because the sound files were removed from the internet :( .

However we have more new tunes than we lost. :)

The changes are visible (bold /red) in the Recorded Tunes Link Page.

Summarizing the changes:

  • There are three new tunes by Tom Lawrence on his great Dipper Clare
  • "Lildogturpy" surprised me by mailing links to three soundfiles on his Wheatstone EC. The Irish set he plays is another example of good sounding Irish music on an English Concertina.
  • "Boney" already announced some recorded tunes in this forum. The tune "Tanz, Tanz, Yidelekh" played on his Geuns-Wakker anglo has become one of my favorites. Really surprising for me is the sound of his Chinese 30b Anglo. This type of concertina, which is so often detested by some C.Netters, sounds very good to me.
  • "Bellowbelle" is going a new direction on her EC with "Concertina in Space"
  • The three wonderfull tunes by David Gruar on his EC, have disappeared from the internet. I'm trying to contact him in order to get his tunes back on the internet.
  • Due to some trouble with his hosting company, "Brightfield" has removed his three soundfiles. He promised to come back with re-recorded material in September.

So far about the status of this page, which gives me so much pleasure. I hope, I didn't forget anything.

Keep sending material!

Just a note to say that the majority of recorded material currently up on our website will be removed either tonight or tomorrow night... because we're launching a regular PodCast, and we want to shift the focus of our website towards that for a bit. For those of you that don't know what one of these new-fangled Podcast thingies is, don't worry, because until about 4 weeks ago neither did I

The idea behind PodCasts is that they're a kind of downloadable radio show. You subscribe to them like subscribing to a magazine through an application like iTunes, and you can either play them back on an mp3 player (e.g. iPod) or listen to them on your PC. But the beauty of them is that if you're using something like iTunes it will go and fetch the latest installment for you automatically whenever there's an update :) One of our reasons for doing it is that there seems to be very little by way of English music in the PodCast directories at the moment, so for once we thought it would be a good idea to grab the technological bull by the horns (though we are still looking into ways of getting a vinyl pressing of our first proper recording done :D)

We're aiming to do one broadcast of four songs every couple of weeks or so, and they'll be a mix of traditional and original stuff; there will be a bit of talking but only enough to describe the songs, so it'll be kept to a minimum. I'll post a bit more about it when I've sorted out the finer details, like where I'm going to host the files.

Thanks for this update Stuart. This looks (sounds) interesting! I will have a closer look to this PodCast-thing.

At the moment I do not see a direct relation between starting a PodCast and removing your sound-files from your website (apart from shifting focus).

I will contact you off-line about it.

Podcast now launched... information etc on this page, with a link to the iPodder FAQ:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/oceanrain/LoveL.../recordings.htm

The first one has four songs in it - The Nutting Girl, A Brisk Young Man He Courted Me, Young Sailor Bold, and The Manchester Molecatcher. I've provided a link to enable downloading the raw mp3 file if people want too, though it's a pretty hefty file.

Stuart,

After solving some technical problems, I succeeded. As a result I am hearing the Nutting Girl while I am writing. Sounds very good!!

Will listen to the other tunes later, because I'm off to work.

Congratulations with your PodCast :D

Hi Henk,

I put some tune recordings on a web-page. They are not very good since I'm just trying to chart my progress rather than advertising my talents! Still if you wanted to put a link to the web-page on the "recorded tune link page" then you are welcome. That way anyone who listens will have to read the caveat beforehand. I would personally find it very interesting to hear other beginners recordings but, speaking for myself, I would be embarrassed to see my contributions simply listed without a "health warning"!.

I enjoyed listening to these. And I think they are healthful enough :) ! They sound great to me.

I am not quite as tuneful as the rest of you players, I think. Not in such detail. I am concentrating more on chords. So...to play those tunes, without mistakes (or, at least well enough to fool everyone :D -- as can sometimes be the case) from start to finish, is quite impressive.

The Recorded Tunes Link Page has been checked and updated with:

  • The tunes of Ritchie Kay on Anglo Stagi and Edgley) without the "health warning" ;). They are by far not that bad!
  • David Gruar's tunes on EC. David had completely removed his website, so the tunes were no longer available. He was so kind to allow me to copy his sound-files to my website.
  • One tune of Henrik on his EC Stagi-mini (in transition) a.k.a. "Frankenstein" ;)

There will be another tune of Henrik soon (I hope  ).
