Hello good folks of C Net.

Not quite a newbie.....I've been lurking around for a bit, collecting some of the education to be had

from the posts and links and such.

I played at the EC back in the 70s and just recently acquired a lovely 1920s Wheatstone 48 EC.

I'm having withdrawal symptoms though....The former owner was none too kind to it/her

so she's off getting a 'million tune' rebuild. (I thought it would be like riding a bicycle...it's not.

I feel like I'm starting from 'scratch'.)

Fiddler in ITM and STM.. and a bit of a sean nos dancer too.

Located in the USA and I don't think there's another EC player within 150 miles.

That's about it..except to say - No, I'm not 'THAT' AuldNick!

Cheers all...

Welcome as an active poster Auldnick,

If you are a little more specific with your geographic location there is always a chance a cnet member or lurker may be closer than you think. There is no quicker way to jumpstart the memory "bicycle" than by playing with and watching others. If your withdrawl symptoms become too acute I believe the Button Box has a rental program.

Good luck and enjoy the concertina adventure!

Depends on where you are...USA covers a lot of ground. B)

Ah, right you are... Phoenix Arizona.

We have a few Anglo players here but if there are any EC players, they're in hiding.

Hmmm - we have two Morris sides here - there must be at least one other EC squeezer.

Off to session now... the fiddle needs some exercise. :)

Ho - Ho - Ho.....(Can we say that nowadays??)

Wrong Nick! (HE's the saint)

In Scotland, Auld Nick is a name for the devil....that's the reason for the 'disclaimer'.

Back in the days when I had long hair, somebody at a session told me I looked like Paganini.

That's the source of Nick (Niccolo).

Now, I'm neither a saint nor a Paganini but I remember my grandmother saying - on several occasions -

"Ach! Yer as bad as AuldNick himself!"

Take a fault and make it a feature??

(((Insert evil laughter here)))

Hmmm - CD...I was hoping for a T-T Edeophone!!

Nick,

Aha! Paganini was the first name that came to my mind when I saw you nickname and your avatar! I believe Nocolo Paganini was called "the Devil's fiddler", too.

Nice to have you on board!

Cheers,

John

... and he plays the bagpipes.

From Tam O' Shanter by Robert Burns

And, wow! Tam saw an unco sight!

Warlocks and witches in a dance:

Nae cotillon, brent new frae France,

But hornpipes, jigs, strathspeys, and reels,

Put life and mettle in their heels.

A winnock-bunker in the east,

There sat auld Nick, in shape o' beast;

A towzie tyke, black, grim, and large,

To gie them music was his charge:

He screw'd the pipes and gart them skirl,

Till roof and rafters a' did dirl. -

Thanks John...

I hadn't heard the Devil' Fiddler part...I know he composed a piece called The Devil's Laughter and another piece

that he heard the devil singing in a dream. I tried to learn his Moto Perpetuo (it's 7 pages long) and I can honestly

say that it's a tune from hell !!

Then

davidcorner just mentioned "... and he plays the bagpipes.

Oh dear...I'm gonna have to put in another disclaimer.....

'Cuz...I've played the Highland Pipes for years (and years)!

Running now for a mirror - to double check for the horns and tail!

Arrrg...I've only been here a few days and I'm already thinking of changing ma name

(((I don't want any souls....just send me your Edeophones and Aeolas))) ;)

Cheers all....

Auldnick,

Keep looking for players in your area. I do not have contact information but I met a lady named Joyce from the Phoenix area when she visited KY to order her anglo Carroll Concertina. She also played english, an Edeophone I believe. I'm sure there are more "sleepers" in your vicinity.

Thanks Greg.

So far, I know a Martha, a Mary, and a Flo here locally, All Anglo players.

I'm sure there's more than that in a town this size. It just takes a while to cross paths

with each other.

Time to make a "Got Concertina?" T-shirt.

The 'concertina radar' is always on!
