michelv
I'm a big halloween fan. I've already collected some suitable tunes on my site: halloween tunes ... but I want more. Any suggestions for creepy tunes to play on EC for halloween? Edited October 30, 2008 by michelv
davidcorner
I'm a big halloween fan. I've already collected some suitable tunes on my site but I want more. Any suggestions for creepy tunes to play on EC for halloween? It's not creepy, but there's an old Scottish Hallowe'en tradition called dooking for apples. Essentially, you float apples in a bowl of water, then try to pick them up using your mouth only. Great fun, but messy Anyway, Alistair Anderson wrote a tune called Dookin' for Apples
Ken_Coles
The same activity, sometimes seen in the old days at parties, is known in the part of America that my parents came from (midlands) as Bobbing for Apples. Time to write a tune? Ken

Time to write a tune? Ken yes but with mono, hepatatis, aids, and extreme halatosis, any activity requring multiple gaping mouths in a small pool of water is probably best to be avoided... instead, I suggest you create a new halloween game fun for the whole family: "Forking for Apples"- using a pitchfork, the idea is to jab as many apples as you can in the vat. Prefearbly dark brackish water. Dressing up like Old Nick is an option.

Any suggestions for creepy tunes to play on EC for halloween? Stupendous tunes. I personally don't see anything Halloweeny in them, but the tunes are first class. Thanks. I'll put them on my list. I think I'll use my accordion for them, it'll be more heart wrenching.

No harm to you, but I think they might just be safer Dookin' for Apples!
Stiamh
The Halloween Jig was composed by my friend Jean Duval - perhaps you could acknowledge this on your page? He named it BTW not because of any spookiness, but because the tune came to him on this day a few years ago. I say "came to him" because he subsequently discovered there was a trad jig with an almost identical first part (this happens!). His second part is nicer than that of the original though. Mystery solved. I couldn't find the author. This jig is absolutely one of my favorites. I find the second part a bit hard to play on EC though. Is Jean Duval Canadian? What instrument does he play? Stiamh
Is Jean Duval Canadian? What instrument does he play? Yes. Mainly flute and other woodwinds, but also fiddle, harmonica, and a few oddities (not including concertina ). He has composed many great tunes. Details of one of his more eccentric projects (an amazing achievement) here: http://www.rogermillington.com/jeanduval/ Edited November 1, 2008 by ZiziAllaire
pickinduck
I'm not sure how well I'm playing it but the Song of the Volga Boatmen sounds to me very dark and spooky DUN - DUN - DUN - DUN

pickinduck
I clicked on the middle one on the right hand side (the mp3 one). Is that what I was supose to do? I think that it sounded very dark and scarry. To check it out you could take it to a graveyard tonight at midnight and listen to it In the lyrics they are pulling a barge against the Volga river's tide and singing. I don't think it's a fun happy song. Was that you playing what I listened to? I thought it was great

I recently bought a camcorder, so I'll will try and play it myself (only the concerina part) on YouTube next time :-) Maybe add some skulls in the background, dim the lights, etc. No pink elephant though like this guy http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UpVOOmmQA5Q. I'm glad you liked it. I'm a big halloween music fan myself...
