Last month my dad handed my mother divorce papers and walked out of the house with some of his clothes and bread-baking stuff (bowls, bread pans) and that's it.

One of the many instruments he left behind is a nearly-new Moeck Flauto Rondo alto recorder. I believe it is made of maple wood.

Since no one else in the family plays recorder, my mother wants to sell this. $225, shipping included.

I'm getting some of his other, older (and cheaper) recorders alto and, I think, soprano.

I doubt I'll ever get good enough on recorder to merit a $200+ one.

In fact the Rondo is Moeck's base range of wooden recorders. The kind of instrument you might move "up to" from a plastic one. They are not particularly expensive, in fact I would have thought that the $200 price tag is fairly close to the new price (I am in the UK and they retail here for about £140). Other Major recorder makers have instruments of similar quality at similar prices.

That's not to say they aren't a perfectly good instrument; they are. If you are interested in playing the recorder at all, I suggest you try to hang on to it.
