This list can't be complete without the late, great Nick Robertshaw and his Jeffries duet - here doing some countermelody noodling on Planxty Fanny Power: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIBof0Fpapo Hard for me not to get teared up watching this - Nick hosted my wedding and was a good friend - he is dearly missed!

Thanks for that. Just plain lovely playing. I can see why you would tear up.

Just two more takes (from fellow CNet members) which had been (and still are) an inspiration to me:

another Simon Thoumire, this time playing a self-penned air (inspired by famous words of his fellow countryman Robert Burns), and

Randy Stein, with his cool rendition of one of the greatest songs of all time.

I always liked this one - Nick at his driving best. Not enough of him on YouTube. But I have recordings I made of him doing pretty much the entire Foggy Bottom repertoire. When I play for them now, it's the sound that's rattling around in my brain.

That's another great yet painful clip - notice Pete Brown wandering into the picture at the 6-second mark, another dear friend who was taken from us too early.

I learned that tune from Nick years ago. On a 30 button Anglo, I can't replicate his cool bass progressions, but I substitute a low, throbbing bass, and it works well.

And yes, I noted Pete's presence. I visited him in the hospital a couple of days before he died.
