Playing Harmonies

While playing Fanny Powers, a harmony seemed to write itself so I posted it here (Fanny Powers Harmony) Many of the tunes we play in our sessions have fiddle, whistle, pipes, mandolin and concertina all playing the same tune. It sounds much more "full" with a good harmony line to accompany the melody. Do you have any favourite harmonies you like to play along with the "regular" tunes played in a session? If you do I'd love to hear them.

My favorite harmony line is a 2nd fiddle part to "Star of the County Down" that one hears very faintly on the Yankee Ingenuity recording from the 70's, "Kitchen Junket." It is credited to Earl Gaddis. Here's the abc. To see standard notation or hear a MIDI rendition of it, paste it into the window at:

Oddly, although I've been playing this for decades, it was not until I just now did it on the computer that I noticed the parallelisms in the 6th full measure of the A part or the 2nd meeasure of the B part. I guess one could take it down a 3rd, but that's not what I remember hearing on the album.
