That was a proper transcription and as such I don't change anything but I take your point. Here's a slightly edited (and slightly slower) version in normal notation.

Nice tune. Why not put repeat signs in the first strain?

Further to this question I've now moved on to Volume 2 of Walsh (Fourth Edition) which seems more sophisticated in its layout and has a higher print quality. Many of the tunes have "Each Strain Twice" underneath and following discussions it has been decided that I will add repeats and alter the footnote to reflect the changes that have been made, like so:

This post is a bit tongue in cheek as the piece is so incredibly hard to play but I do love these variation sets. This comes from volume 2 of Kohler's Violin Repository and is by far the longest piece of its kind I've ever come across. This one should get Profrat reaching for his concertina!

Dirge, the PDF is here! All three pages of it.

Here's a tune with a difference, thirteen measures in the A music is something I've not encountered before and I can't really tell if the tempo is anywhere near right. It's quite catchy if a little odd!

Six and Sevens (the unusual structure rather than the melody) reminded me of this little corker, just perfect for those many occasions when you need a slightly syncopated 12 bar B part ...

Thanks Peter - I thought it looked odd myself, but that was the info I had written on the paper version I was given.

Original post now edited to reflect the correct composer name.

This is one for the collectors, I doubt I will ever reach the standard required to play it but it's nice to mess around with it. Ratface rides again! :D

T:Maggy Lawder - With Variations

I wonder if you might be able to post or email a scan of the original? There's a couple of places that don't seem quite right to me - I could adjust them as I see fit, but then I might be accused of cheating!

Thanks - Danny

Scan of volume two is here. Maggie Lawder is the second tune. The ABC I posted (from volume 2) was transcribed by John Chambers of "JCs Tunefinder" fame. I have the ABC's (and scans of the originals) for all three volumes if you'd like them? In fact I'll root around and find the page on John Chamber's site so that anyone who wants to can grab the files, there are some wonderful pieces in there, I'll be back!

Here's a great tune from Estonia. A post on melodeon.net drew my attention to it, listen to young Ollie King playing it and then have a go at it yourself.

well, holy guacamole, I just spent the last two hours getting signed up on "you scribe" in French--which I do not speak; whew, I feel like I've been thru the wringer. But the success was worth it. I got all three volumes of the Respositoy downloaded and into my IPad forScore app. These tunes look to be fun and "classics" . Thanks Tallship! shelly

This is a fine tune. Nothing at all 'flash' about it, just nicely structured and good fun, enjoy!
