Alan Miller Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Over the weekend TG4 presented a fascinating program on the styles of Music in County Clare. It includes extensive descriptions from Noel Hill and Mary McNamara, and also some film of Kitty Hayes and Paddy Murphy. To see it go to TG4.tv and click on Ceol on the left side, then click "play" on the 23/5/08 program. I suppose there is a way to put a link directly in but I couldn't find how to do it, so if someone is able to insert a direct link, it would be helpful. Alan

Leo Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Hey Alan These were added to YouTube on May 19. If I did my detective work ok, it should be the same show. I can't be sure since I don't speak the language. Canúintí Ceoil (1/3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMEl1wGDBFA&fmt=6 Canúintí Ceoil (2/3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r9xfDoAgH0&fmt=6 Canúintí Ceoil (3/3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKbjJvHuyU4&fmt=6 __________ In any event, there are 486 of them to look through, if they aren't the correct ones: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=Sanyallana They're in reverse date order Thanks Leo
Alan Miller Posted May 27, 2008 Author Posted May 27, 2008 Stephen: Thanks. The TG4 link will be good for several months then will cycle off. TG4 is a very interesting source that is fun to check every once in a while. Leo: The YouTube links should be on a long time. Your detective work is worthy of Columbo. Also helpful is your Nov. 22, 2007 post on downloading. Alan
ceemonster Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) thank you much, this was a really neat experience. hey, anyone have any idea who the gent was on concertina in an old black-and-white ceili clip that spotlighted him on concertina plus a flute player? the band appeared to be outdoors. the clip was near the end of one segment, when aine was talking to peadar, about west clare i think, and then a snippet appeared at the start of the next installment. this concertina player was a straightbacked younger fellow with a widows peak and a beautiful style---???? tommy macmahon? a younger paddy murphy or chris droney? i loved his playing.... That's Paddy Murphy, and the flute player is Peter O'Loughlin himself, the two of them were a famous (competition-winning) duet. The film was made at the 1963 All-Ireland Fleadh in Cashel. i loved his playing.... Me too. Whenever I could I used to go to Inagh on a Sunday night to hear Paddy, Peter and Tom Eustace play for the set dancing - we thought then that set dancing would die out with that generation, but look what happened!
