Not seen anything with insides like this before.

But then again, I'm a total newbie.

Incidentally, with the coaching of Dirge and Greg Jowaisas (and several others on this list), I'm now the proud owner of a 1918ish 46 key Lachenal "New Model" McCann Duet with raised ebony ends, metal buttons, steel reeds, and 7 bellows. Purchased from Chris Algar. Thanks everybody! It really wails.

You're very fortunate, some of us started out on concertinas built like that! (That's typical German construction.)

Now you're talking, I've always loved New Models!

I have one constructed like that on the inside that plays reasonably well. It was made probably in the twenties or thirties. When Frank Edgely played it at the 2006 NESI, he said it was a decent enough box. Should we both end up at an event of some sort here in Ohio, I'll let you have a look.

I have a german 20 button looks almost identical. It needs new valves and I haven't gotten around to it being the playboy tycoon that I am, bunnies to chase and all that.

I will say though its considerably lighter, and sounds far better than the chinese junko anglo I just commented about on another thread (that wasn't my particuliar junko though, thats in the garage)

Looks like a smaller version of the innards of my ca. 1900 German single-reeded Bandoneon, which has a beautiful, rich sound. More like a good harmonium than a concertina ;)

My Bandoneon has a wooden action, too.

Cheers,

John
