I've recently come into posession of this concertina. I'm pretty sure it's a Lachenal Anglo but I'm a bit confused about its age.

The serial number is R 20116 which is on the board that the reeds are fitted to ( most of the reeds are brass).

It has the Lachenal trade mark, as can be seen in the picture, but using the formula I made the date as the mid 1850s but the stuff I've read said the trade mark was used from 1879.

Could someone help out? I probably got the calculation wrong.

I can't play the instrument and with my "tin ear" its unlikely that I'll ever learn. I intend to offer it on Ebay so knowing more about the date would be really useful.

You guys know more about these matters than I ever will so I also wanted to know what would be a reasonable starting price for an instrument of this type and age?

Many thanks in advance.

Puzzle solved! I checked the serial number mysef and the number actually reads R 120116. Applying the formula gives a date of 1905 which puts it at 16 years after the trademark was introduced. Examination of the mechanism shows a couple of home repairs which are pretty well done. Many thanks to those who contacted me "off list" to advise on this, Cheers guys!
