Chris Drinkwater Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Just discovered this.........Prickle-eye bush Fine singing too. Robin I totally agree, Robin. Anahata is also a very fine melodeon player and cello player. His partner Mary Humphreys plays banjo and English concertina and sings and together, they are a lovely and talented duo. Their latest CD, Fenlandia, so named because they live near Cambridge in East Anglia, in Fenland country, and play and sing some of the local tunes and songs, is a super CD with some very nice tracks on it. They happen to be friends of mine, so I have seen their playing evolve over the last few years and it just gets better and better. Chris
Pete Dunk Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Yep, right up my street this, I'll think I'll have to buy one or two CDs. Interesting that they've worked with Craig, Morgan, Robson too, they are well worth investigating if this is your kind of music.
Alan Day Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I too enjoyed Prickle - eye- bush ( from the same dictionary that Chim- in- eye sweep came from). When a tune or song gets you humming it or singing it within minutes and stays for a few hours then it is a good one.I enjoyed Mary Humphreys singing very much and the accompaniment with a very strong John Kirkpatrick influence ,but there are very few players in the UK who have not been influenced by J.K I am very sorry I missed their evening at Horsham and I will definitely go along the next time they are near, even if it's just to hear the Prickly bush song again. PeterT Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I too enjoyed Prickle - eye- bush Had me wandering around the house singing "Prickle Holly Bush" - same story, but the version collected by Bob Copper when he ran a pub in Hampshire (the building is still there, but sadly no longer a pub!). Peter.
Leo Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 When I read the post topic, I thought it was someone blowing up a concertina that they got frustrated playing. Fortunately I was wrong. Unfortunately I left it play while I went about other house chores. I left it on for about an hour. It's addicting in a good way. Thanks Leo
David Barnert Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 When I read the post topic, I thought it was someone blowing up a concertina that they got frustrated playing. And when I saw the subheading I thought Anahata had joined c.net and started the thread. I remember him from the Morris Dance Discussion list 10 or 12 years ago. We corresponded some but I haven't seen his name in years.
