Alan Day Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 (edited) When is a Linota not a Linota- When it is a Lachenal! A Concertina at Auction in Sussex has listed a Wheatstone Linota at £100-£150 Estimate for a 30 button Anglo. On the Hand rest it is clearly stamped Linota it is metal ended and in reasonable condition, but needs a little bit of work on the pads, valves and reeds to get it into working order. A Bargain? No !!! The hand rest is correct ,but it is on a Lachenal. If you are bidding for this tomorrow you now know what you are bidding for. Be warned. Al Edited January 29, 2008 by Alan Day
Alan Day Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 This Concertina was sold this morning for £950 (this is subject to Auctioneers mark up of at least 15% plus 17.5% VAT = Total purchase price £1117.38). I hope nobody was fooled with the description Al
Paul Read Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 if it was a rosewood it looks like the price was the upper end of the expected value.
Alan Day Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 if it was a rosewood it looks like the price was the upper end of the expected value. It was metal ended. I would not have paid as much as that for it , but 30 button Lachenals are starting to creep up in price. It may be in old concert pitch so with the work on the reeds, valves (growling) and pads it was not a bargain. It was playable however and I was offered a day job demonstrating it until the Auction. I declined !! Al
