Pam B Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I need to replace a valve in my Marcus. Dave Elliott's maintenance guide recommends PVA glue, but it's in reference to valves on wood. Is it the same glue for valves on metal, or should I be using something else? Thanks in advance for your advice! Pam

Marcus makes reproduction instruments using accordion reeds. The glue you need is not PVA, which is a wood glue, and anyway, my book talks about the use of gum arabic. I would look at the accorion sites for this form of advie or talk to marcus direct. Dave E
McIsog Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Try testing a medium grade cyanoacrylate or Crazy Glue with a spare valve in an 'off' area. It may simply work.
Theo Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 The traditional glue for attaching accordion valves is made by dissolving shellac in alcohol to make a thick liquid. In practice I find that Bostik contact adhesive in a 50ml tube is convenient and gives satisfactory results.
