Dirge Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 As a result of other concertina commitments She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed tells me this particular 'box has to go. (Whatever happened to H Ryder Haggard?). This is a really good rosewood beast, metal key, steel reed 'box, number 28497, so vintage stuff all the way. It was fully reconditioned by Mike Acott when I bought it a couple of years ago, and, if anything, is even better now, having been well played in. But it was a good 'un from the start. It's light and fast with a full 'woody' tone (Comment in the bar at Kilve 'They make those duets loud, don't they?') It needs nothing doing to it at all, apart from polishing off my fingerprints. It cries out to be used for trad music, I think, the tone is right, nice and 'old fashioned sounding', not as sophisticated as my silver voiced aeola, but for hornpipes and jigs it sounds brilliant, just right. It would carry well in the open air too. For me it doesn't have the range to play the 'piano music' style arrangements I favour, but I have had many happy hours when I wasn't feeling like serious practice just slouching in the sofa knocking out jolly ditties. It's a lovely machine and I wish I could allow myself the luxury of keeping it. Price? NZ$4500 plus postage. Here's a quick demo; I'll try and organise a picture later. Comes with the original case, which, as usual, has lost its hasp and had all the corners bashed; you know the drill, if you're considering something like this!
Chris Drinkwater Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Nice playing, Dirge. Quite hare-raising, in fact. What's NZ$4,500 in pounds sterling, mate? For anyone in good old Albion, who may be interested perchance to purchase it. Chris
Dirge Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 Whatever are you doing up at this time Chris? (It's a jolly tune, isn't it.) Pounds are losing out to 'dog dollars', as my niece calls them, at the moment; about £1800.
