scarbo11 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I have recently bought an English Concertina, to try my hand at something new after many years of piano, and I absolutely love it and have become a complete nut about it, even though I am quite rubbish at it. I have found that I learn best with a teacher to spur me on a bit; as I already read music I am tending to skip over a lot of the stuff in the tutor books that is to do with learning to read music, and trying to rush ahead (pretty poor practice, I know...). Was wondering it there are any tutors in the London/Essex area who could help me reign in this annoying (and quite wonderful) noise-box. If not, are there any tutor-books out there that already assume you can read music? I am interested in all styles, really.

I'm sure that C.net members will know of, and suggest, someone not too far away from you. I know someone who plays melodeon, and lives in the Harlow area. I've mailed him to see whether he knows of anyone. If I receive a positive response, I'll message you. Regards, Peter.

Well, I guess the best person to contact would be Dave Townsend, who runs the annual Hands on Music Weekends at Witney, which also includes 'Concertinas at Witney'. Dave, who lives near Oxford, is himself an accomplished player of the English concertina and gives lessons, I believe. He can be contacted here. Chris

Kept looking at the 'Concertinas at Witney' site, thinking that would be something to work towards in the future. 'Tis great to get 2 really usefull replies in such a short time. Kind regards to you all.
