PeterT
What sort of anglo is Packie russell playing on this utube video? It's a four row box, which, to me, both sounds and looks like a Jeffries, although I can't see any gold tooling on the bellows. A quick search on Google can't confirm whether I am right, but I'm sure that more informed C.net members will know for sure. Regards, Peter. Stephen Chambers
It's a four row box, which, to me, both sounds and looks like a Jeffries, although I can't see any gold tooling on the bellows. Yep, you're dead right there Peter, that's what it is. The instrument was bought, for him to play, by O'Connor's pub in Doolin, and sat in a display case there for many years after his death (though not since the place changed hands). I don't know if he ever actually owned a decent box himself; around 25 years ago I repaired a 30-key Jeffries that it seems he had often borrowed. Edited to add: I took a look at my DVD of the same clip, and with the better definition, and on a bigger screen, it is possible to see the gold tooling on the bellows frames. It's on Come West Along the Road 2, RTÉDVD113, which also has concertina clips of Paddy Murphy playing with Peadar O'Loughlin on concert flute (a renowned All-Ireland winning duet, they played together for many years) and Ella May Dwyer.
