Mark D. Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I've just put this on: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Restored-Lachenal-An...1QQcmdZViewItem What happened to this listing? I was watching it and then it dissappeared.
Paul Read Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 As happened with my last concertina on Ebay, the listing was hijacked by some jackass who had stolen another identity. What they do is they put a ridiculously high bid so that they win but then they don't respond. They do this on over 100 items. The person whose identity has been stolen gets inundated with e-mails. When ebay get wind of it they cancel the auction, wiping out all record of it. I may be selling off ebay (it went to $3050). If not, it will be back on this week or maybe around March/April.
Dirge Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 So this is just morons messing rather than people out to make money?
Paul Read Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 So this is just morons messing rather than people out to make money? The only way I could see them making money is if they send fake 'second chance offers' to the losing bidders. However, because all trace of the auction disappears they would have to be fast to do that. I should have done that when I became suspicious instead of telling ebay (who just leave you in limbo) then corrected the offer if the winner turned out to be genuine. i think the message is that Ebay, like Paypal, look after themselves first. The customer is a poor second.
