Alistair Anderson has been at the forefront of traditional English music for over 30 years & is unsurpassed as an English concertina player, also playing Northumbrian smallpipes. He has played with The High Level Ranters, Will Atkinson, Richard Thompson, Kate Bush & the Lindsay String Quartet; he is a respected composer, tutor & academic, founding both Folkworks & the University of Newcastle’s traditional music degree course.

The workshop will focus on the rich tradition of Northumberland & the Borders from the late 17th. century to today: one of Britain's most distinctive regional musics with a wide range of dance tunes & some beautiful slower, reflective tunes. Alistair hopes to share musical insights gained through many years playing with wonderful older musicians - Joe Hutton, Will Taylor, Will Atkinson, Billy Pigg.

The workshop is fully booked, but we are keeping a waiting list in case of cancellations. If you would like to go on the waiting list, please send an email including your postal address to valmaigoodyear@aol.com. It would also be helpful to know what instrument you would be bringing.

Tickets are still available for Alistair's evening performance at the Lewes Arms Folk Club at the ludicrously low price of £6 each. A printable booking form is available on the club's website http://www.lewesarmsfolkclub.org/.

We received the music for this workshop on Wednesday, over thirty tunes! There's some really interesting stuff, rhythmically quite challenging at times. I've got a feeling I'll be playing catch up all day because there's no way I'll have them all off in time. :(

Don't worry, Alistair assures me he's not going to play them all with us. I think a lot of them are there as illustrations.

We've got a few tickets left for his performance in the evening; anyone can use the booking form at the head of this thread to reserve them if you like. Send me a cheque and I'll hold tickets on the door as there isn't time to put them in the post.

All the best,

Valmai

This workshop was a challenging but highly rewarding experience. I've enough material to keep me busily practicing for some time. I've not seen Alistair before. He's a bit good really...
