steve.warnes Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Hello every one - my first posting I have two old concertinas. An old English one in good nick and has Lachenal badge and serial number on it. Is this sellable? The socond I always thought was a Lachenal Anglo but on reexamination I cant find any label for the maker. There is a serial number 177700. I attach 3 pictures in the hope someone can help identify. Thanks Steve
Pete Dunk Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Hello every one - my first posting I have two old concertinas. An old English one in good nick and has Lachenal badge and serial number on it. Is this sellable? Hello Steve, welcome to the forum. All concertinas are salable but you'd have to define 'good nick' in order to find out how salable. Pics would help too. The socond I always thought was a Lachenal Anglo but on reexamination I cant find any label for the maker. There is a serial number 177700. I attach 3 pictures in the hope someone can help identify. Looks like a Lachenal to me. The clue is in the 'steel reeds' stamped on the handrest. The bellows look shot to me; is there any reason why you've posted two photos of the right hand end and none of the left?
steve.warnes Posted November 20, 2007 Author Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) No reason other than incompetence - I will add the other end You have got good eyesight the wooden handle says STEEL REEDS on the top andblow on the side. TRADE ENGLISH (Reed symbol) MAKE MARK The bellows have been repaired. There is leaking air but I think it is from the pads not the bellows. This one obviously needs work doing to it. Do you know what date it would be? Thanks Steve Edited November 20, 2007 by steve.warnes
Pete Dunk Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 There are several formulae for dating Lachenals (and probably as many threads on the same subject on here), have a look around on Concertina.com and run a search through the old posts on this forum. Hopefully someone who remembers more about it than me will be along in a while to point you in the right direction.
Paul Read Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Based on your description of the stamp this is a Lachenal. These were a cheaper model but usually quite nice instruments.
Paul Read Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Now it's on ebay And here's the English: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lachenal-English-Con...1QQcmdZViewItem
Pete Dunk Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 And here's the English: Another fairly low end model but it does look in quite nice condition. That will be the last we see of our 'new member' then ...
steve.warnes Posted November 22, 2007 Author Posted November 22, 2007 Not necessarily so If I sell these older ones then I intend to buy a newer one that I know is in tune and doesn't need me to know a lot about the things to get to pipe out a tune. So I may well be back And thank you for the advice - it was/is very helpful Regards Steve

No other maker had serial numbers exceeding 5 digits.
