dave53144 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I am looking for advice for a base line or a drone that will let me get the hang of Polka timing on a concertina. I am new to concertinas and I have D40 hohner and I am looking for something that will let me get used to a polka rhythm while making the bellows movement secondary so I can start to learn the instrument. I would greatly appreciate a simple exercise and a recommended song(s) so that I can get off the home base. I don't care if its as simple as playing one note on a draw and then push two notes in time. I am looking for a 'simple' excercise to start. Thanks in advance.
wntrmute Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Ok, first off I don't know jack. But maybe this could help: Use the air button to open up your bellows, start counting off one-two-three one-two-three, then on one press the C: 00*00 00000 On the two and three press the E and G: 000** 00000 Do that again. Then start to draw on the bellows, and on the one pull a D 00*00 00000 On the two and three press the F and A: 000** 00000 While still drawing pull a B on the one 0*000 00000 and on the 2 and 3 pull the F and A again 000** 00000 Repeat as needed. At least I guess that would be a polka line of a sort. Maybe someone else knows a better one.
dave53144 Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 You might not know jack.. but at least you tried to help. Thank You I will try it.
David Barnert Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Polkas aren't in three, they're in two. If you follow this scheme, you won't play a polka, you'll play a waltz. Instead of oom-pa-pa, play oom-pa oom-pa, where oom is the bass note and pa is the chord. The same chords should work.
