Frank Edgley
Dear Ken, The dates for the Goderich Celtic College are Aug. 9 - 13. Most people arrive on Sunday (Aug 8th), and stay until the week-end festival (Aug 15th). So far, I am the only concertina teacher, but there are others to be named. This is a great week, with over 50 instructors, mostly in instrumental music, but also with classes in singing,Irish language, cooking, Celtic artwork, blacksmithing, stone carving etc. for spouses who may or may not play an instrument. There are free concerts every night, by musicians who will be appearing on the weekend, slow jam and sessions. Last year, performers included Dervish, Davey Spillane, Sean Keane, Gearoid OhAllmuirhain, and many others. The school is a real steal at $230 US per person, and local accomodations are quite reasonable. At this summer school, the teachers and performers are the most accessible of any I have attended. Paul Read
I can agree with Frank's comments. This is a fine week where the instructors and students mix as one. There are some great sessions, singing, playing and a host of classes to select from. last year also had an English concertina class with Matt Heumann. Helen
Frank, I'm really looking forward to this festival. I'm going to go next year. I was planning on going this year, but I've wanted to meet Rhomylly so I'm going to that camp this year. I plan on doing the week of classes and the festival next year. Helen
Yes, Rhomylly, that would be great. Let's plan on it. Poor Frank. The two of us. Well, he will have a year to prepare!!! Helen
Ken_Coles
I may get credit for spurring Frank to post this, as I asked him for details to revise the summer school page and he posted a copy of his reply here. Watch for that new Summer list shortly. There is more each year in North America, especially if you play Irish music on anglo. I hope to see additional instruments and styles as the years go by as well. Let us know if we miss any opportunities. I will get up there one of these years. Frank Edgley
Ken, Just wanted to let you know that there was some problem responding to your e-mail. That's why I posted it instead of responding to you directly. To Helen and Rhomylly, thanks for the "heads up". I'll start preparing now!
Helen
Frank, I am so glad you posted it. More people get a chance to see it. And early as the list of summer camps probably doesn't get out for a while. I'm sorry Ken, yes lots of people will see it on your listing, but it is nice for people who need to plan time off in advance to see it now. Hee hee Frank, you are gonna love having Rhomylly and me, together. You think you will be prepared, but... Helen
