Bob Tedrow Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 I thought you might like to see this. I have never seen a failure like it before. The problem displayed with a slow sluggish lever. The brass lever has split down the middle, causing the lever to drag at the fulcrum. http://hmi.homewood.net/image/lever.jpg Bob Tedrow
dbowers Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I've seen old metal parts fail in that manner, but only when they were made as some sort of lamination (braised or forge-welded). Do any of the other levers show signs of lamination?
Bob Tedrow Posted January 20, 2004 Author Posted January 20, 2004 No, that was the only one. It does not appear to be laminated as the fissure is pretty jagged. I braized it and put it back into service. Bob
