Chris Timson Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 (edited) I was just reporting a "Stunning Wheatstone Aeola 40-button Anglo Concertina" which had suddenly appeared on ebay no less than 4 times alongside a similar MacCann when they all disappeared. The scam appeared to use a hijacked acount and wasn't, so far as I could tell, about actually "selling" concertinas but trying to persuade the gullible to contact an email address (ukperfectsales@gmail.com, which I publish here in the hope that it is harvested by spammers). Well done ebay. Chris Edited to add PS: here's an earlier version of the scam. I love the bit where he says " Seller's payment instructions Please read carefully!!! First Step: Before you bid contact me first at rock2best@gmail.com as I will cancel the BID !!! Second Step : PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECTLY AT : rock2best@gmail.com INSTEAD OF USING "ASK THE SELLER A QUESTION" AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE!". Here's a man with a truly low opinion of the intelligence of his fellow human beings. Edited July 24, 2007 by Chris Timson

Chris Timson Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 Interesting that you assume it's a man. I wondered if anyone would spot that. The whole things seems crassly stupid to me. I'm sure women must have better things to do with their time. Chris
Perry Werner Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 HOWDY: As of right now on 7/24/07 there are 4 consecutive listings for the same Wheatstone McCann duet. Pretty weird, Actually I bid on this instrument via "Buy It Now" a few months ago when I realized that this was too good to be true and then contacted Ebay. No I nevert sent the dough thank goodness. The communications sounded like I was dealing with a distant ancestor of the cavemen from the Geico commercials.. Glad I caught on. What the heck is this guy (or gal or primate) thinking if there is thiunking going on at all. Have fun, Perry Werner
Dirge Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 You're excessively generous to Ebay, I reckon. I bet they pulled it because they could see someone trying to evade paying them a fee. THEN they act quickly.
