Any UK members local to Surrey and Cheshire might be interested in some interesting looking concertinas coming up for auction in the next few days.

A Wheatstone http://www.ukauctioneers.com/LotDetails.aspx?lot=1035442 and Lachenal http://www.ukauctioneers.com/LotDetails.aspx?lot=1035402 (both English) at PF WIndbank auctioneers in Dorking, and a nice looking 30 key Anglo http://www.ukauctioneers.com/LotDetails.aspx?lot=1033241 at Marshall's auctioneers in Knutsford. The estimate for the anglo seems very low.

Only wish I was closer to either of them.

Here are some pictures:post-4306-1183806950_thumb.jpgpost-4306-1183806973_thumb.jpgpost-4306-1183807014_thumb.jpg

Also, apologies for error in the name of 1 auctioneer - it is Windibank, not Windbank as previously stated.

I think you'll need to register with the auction site to access the catalogues through them (it's free). I was already logged into the site when looking earlier and checking the links from C-net. Hope that doesn't cause any difficulties

I might be able to checkout the one in Knutsford - it's only a few miles down the road. Pity it's an Anglo that they're selling though.

I regularly go to a musical instruments auction in Corsham every three months. They're interesting occasions and you can pick up some bargains. Not in concertinas, though! Chris Algar will bid by phone on anything interesting, and "Busmick" bids by proxy with the auctioneer. Anything they don't bid for isn't worth bidding on.

Chris Algar is only half an hour away from this one so he may even be there.....

I may go along for fun though (I play EC and can probably resist buying an anglo :-)

Looks like there are quite a lot of instruments going in this auction.

According to Marshalls the hammer price for their SA anglo was £925 !! :o

With 17% on top of that! - Odd when a fully restored rosewood ended Lachenal 32b anglo only reached about £750 a week or so ago.

Wow! I actually called in this morning before work to look at it .... it wasn't in vgc, leaky bellows, more than half the notes not sounding, tarnished, handstraps held on with rusty screws. The case probably wasn't the right one, it had the groove down the side for the thumb strap screws.

OTOH - they were filming there with Dickinson for an antiques show of some sort ... day time TV stuff, so I don't know what it was - he spent a lot of time trying to get a cheesy catch phrase right - and I got shushed for trying out a flutina - little wheezy organ noises during take 4 or 5 :P

Maybe someone in the saleroom got carried away by the excitement!

Hmm.. I wonder what the flutinas went for?

**** Neil, How did you get the sale price, I've been going round in circles on the auctioneers site, clicking on the sales results, and nothing comes up. Did you find out somewhere else, and the price hasn't been published online yet? ****

Chris,

I rang them up to see how my paltry bid had done!
