Daniel Hersh Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 (edited) It's here on Ebay. I suspect a hijacked eBay account--the seller has no feedback since 2002. It's a private listing too--another warning sign. Does anyone recognize this listing? I would prefer to be wrong, but I'd recommend caution on this one... Daniel Edited May 17, 2007 by Daniel Hersh
chris Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 (edited) Hi the red marker around one of the reeds looks familiar as does the amount of elastoplast on the bellows. I'd also advise caution here chris Edited May 17, 2007 by chris
Greg Jowaisas Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I believe the original listing was some time ago - A year or more? The split sound board and rusty reeds jogged my memory. Full Stop!! Proceed with caution!! That would be my heading. Greg
Lawrence Reeves Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Our detective skills aside, what if.......... Maybe this was a project too big for the previous buyer to take on. I have sent an email, which I assume will not be responded to, but also the original seller might get the email ( id hijacked) and respond. I'll gladly pay 25 dollars for a lovely Jeffries just like the old days before the internet.
Paul Read Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 It does seem to have all the warning signs. I'm also trying to contact him re checking the instrument out
Greg Jowaisas Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Please have him produce additional pictures of specific requested parts before committing money to this"bargain". Greg
Laitch Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 The original 2006 ebay posting for this Jeffries seems to be here. It apparently was discussed in this thread.
Daniel Hersh Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 I believe that if the ID was hijacked the hijacker will be able to modify the associated e-mail address to his/her own address, but I guess there's a chance that he/she neglected to do that. I notified eBay but I'm not sure if they'll take action without an listing number for the original, authentic listing. Daniel Hersh Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 Good spotting! Can someone report this to eBay? I need to get back to work... But I'll do it tonight if no one has taken care of it by then. Daniel The original 2006 ebay posting for this Jeffries seems to be here. It apparently was discussed in this thread.

Daniel Hersh Posted May 18, 2007 Author Posted May 18, 2007 Thanks, Paul. I've now re-reported to eBay with the earlier listing number in hand, and I've also sent a message to the buyer from the earlier listing asking him/her to contact eBay too if this is indeed a fraud. I hope this gets taken down soon--bids are appearing.... Good spotting! Can someone report this to eBay? I need to get back to work... But I'll do it tonight if no one has taken care of it by then. Daniel Hersh Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 Arrgh, it's still there. I'd encourage others to echo the reports that Paul and I sent to the eBay Security Center, citing the old listing number (7405244200) in your message. (Current listing number, which you'll also need, is 150123307692.) That might help convince them to take it down or to take it down sooner. Daniel Thanks, Paul. Daniel I reported this scam to ebay today, and I keep encouraging anybody else to do the same. But if this is an hijacked account, who can tell? The problem may be that ebay does not like to remove offers from clients with 100% positive feedbacks just like that.
scott fineran Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I saw this concer last year, the seller was from Brisbane and I dropped over and saw him. I have also just reported it again. I got onto the live chat with the security guys and they said they would look into it and do something about it. See how good or daft they really are over there I guess.

Perhaps they have a trap set and they are waiting for the rat to return. Perhaps they will be the high bidder too. Don't underestimate them.

Daniel Hersh Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 Finally! I didn't know about the live chat option--I'll bear it in mind for the next one..... I wish that eBay would move a little faster on these--there's always the risk of the fraudster negotiating an off-line "sale" before the auction ends. But I'm glad that it did at least eventually get pulled. I saw this concer last year, the seller was from Brisbane and I dropped over and saw him. I have also just reported it again.
