squirrellydave
Hi there, Can anyone recommend someone in the San Francisco area of California who could do some work re-tuning my anglo to the south african tuning? I know what the tuning needs to be, I just need someone with the expertise to do it.... thanks! Dave
Chris Allert
Hi there,Can anyone recommend someone in the San Francisco area of California who could do some work re-tuning my anglo to the south african tuning? Dave can you tell the rest of us more about south african tuning? is it a different temperament? or is it just the arrangement of the notes that's different? ocd
If your concertina has accordion reeds Kimric Smythe would be able to take care of your request. He is in Oakland: http://www.smythesaccordioncenter.com/ Be warned, last time I visited his shop it was a bit on the chaotic side. ocd
squirrellydave
thanks, I've been meaning to get over there and check out his shop. The squashbox tuning according to Harry Scurfield (for Eb/Bb): LEFT Push-Eb Bb Eb G Bb Pull-Bb D F Ab C RIGHT Push-D F Ab C D Pull-Eb G Bb D G LEFT Push-F A C Eb G Push-Bb F Bb D F RIGHT Push- Bb D F Bb D Push- A C Eb G A Two of the reed blocks are reversed and one note re-tuned. (does that make sense?) thanks, Dave Edited January 25, 2007 by squirrellydave
squirrellydave
Here's a link to a field recording made by David Rycroft: http://sounds.bl.uk/View.aspx?item=025M-C0...13XX-0200V0.xml I'm not positive that the concertina used here is the exact tuning I listed, but this is the general effect. (note-the recording seems to be slowed down, imagine it faster!) Dave

I'm not sure I want to be a member of everything.
