I must also look more closely at the photos of the ancient charabang "Jollies" (strictly 'arries of course) at my local "The Leather Bottle" in Garratt Lane, Wandsworth.

You should indeed, I have several photographs of charabanc outings (both horse-drawn and motorised) with concertina, or melodeon, players.

I had wondered about the possibility of "concertina competition," with the instrument as a prize, or even "concertina club competition (or cup)."

 

All speculation, I know...

Well now, a search has come up with the prestigious "Royal Caledonian Curling Club", a connection which would, if proven, neatly tie together two topics in the Concertina History section ! According to their archive the club had been in existence for 60 years by 1895 so it is a possiblity, all be it remote.
