Lawrence Reeves Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Is there a history of buying wrecked English concertinas for harvesting the reeds? Wondering about making an old C/G into a C#/ G#.
Stephen Chambers Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Is there a history of buying wrecked English concertinas for harvesting the reeds? Wondering about making an old C/G into a C#/ G#. Lawrence, You could get a lot of the reeds out of an English, but not all; like those big low reeds for the bottom end. But anyway, your best option would be to find an Anglo in the original high pitch C/G tuning, and repitch it up by half a semitone, instead of down by the same.
Lawrence Reeves Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 I was thinking about doing it myself. I have never tried to tune a reed, and would never want to destroy a good instrument. With tuning in mind, I would give a start on a harmonica as my first attempt.

If i would find a old english concertina i would get it. Would not mind if it is in absolut terrible stae. As long as ti would be affordable to me.
