Mark Evans
Dominique and the kids gave me the best Father's Day...ever! No pen and pencil sets or ties I won't wear. Instead they put together a music party for all the grey old men I make music with in my garden. It was a warm afternoon but the maple tree gave us shade, the fish pond cooled the air and the libations replaced much needed fluids . Lovely music making with Obi's Boys plus Dobro whiz Richie Chassion and Barkey Kaligian the now 81 year old fiddler who ran us into the ground with his energy. Lovely, lovely afternoon I'll not soon forget.
David Barnert
I assume that's Dominique under the umbrella with the dark shirt. Looks like she's singing. Must have been lovely (I've heard her sing and paid a lot of money for the privilege).
Alan Day
It looks great to me,it is a shame we are not a bit nearer I could have squeezed in round that circle. Glad you had a memorable day Mark Al
Mark Evans
No David, that's madnoline player Tom Healy's daughter and she was a bit embarassed she knew the words to the song "Georgia Rose". Dominique was taking the pictures. She did not sing for us, but kept making requests. Her first request was for Richie to sing "I just don't look good naked anymore." Now that's one she won't be singing with Aston Magna, which I think will be up in your part of the world next week. Al, I wish we were closer. My poor box was a bit out numbered and the two of us could have set them to route with a fine rendition of "Limey Pete" !
Animaterra
Mark, what a wonderful day. Thanks for the picture! It may be worth a thousand words, but it doesn't give the sense of the music that you did. (ow that I'm climbing out from under my rock of the end of the school year, I may need to gather some musicians 'round here for a similar event. Soon's I get back from Old Songs!) Peter Brook
What is "Father's Day" for? Shouldn't we be saying thank you to dads (and mums) all through the year? Looks like a good excuse for a party though Being a staunch traditional yorkshireman my father doesn't hold with what he considers "imported customs". I bought him a father's day card once as a young teenager and never made that mistake again
David Barnert
No DavidSorry 'bout that. I love the way the picture almost looks like a painting. It makes it very warm and inviting. But detailed resolution where faces are concerned is not one of its strengths. Now that's one she won't be singing with Aston Magna, which I think will be up in your part of the world next week.Indeed. Jullie and I will be there for the Saturday evening performance (July 1) in Great Barrington. Any chance you will?
Mark Evans
Odd you should mention that David. Dominique and I had a discussion about that this evening. There is a chance I'll be able to drive out for the performance and bring her home. Allison, our music was a mix of Bluegrass, Western Swing, Old Time and a smattering of Irish tunes and songs. Peter, every day should be fathers and mothers day. Don't know what I'd do with all those horrible ties though . And yes, it was a very good excuse for a party. Sorry your dad didn't take to the card. I've saved all mine and it's very nice to look them over once a year Edited June 23, 2006 by Mark Evans

Mark, it seems like there's something missing from that list. If I can get my scanner working again, I should copy for you some the old English-concertina arrangements of operatic arias that were published by Wheatstone. That could be a real hoot. I imagine they are transcriptions that may have fallen out of the popular opera genre and would hold great interest for me. I'm guessing I'd have to re-arrange some stuff since my Morse is only a 37 note treble. The Obi's have teased me about 'opera bellerin' and thus far I have chosen to keep that dark part of my past far away.

Mark Evans
Would that be you in a Tu Tu Mark?Al Have mercy no Al! Community standards an' such. My encounter with ballet (how did you know) is kept even deeper in the dark closet than the opera stuff. They thought opera singers should take a ballet class. A lad of 18, I hadn't learned to say "not bl**dy likely! It was the dance belt that realy put me off !

Perhaps any early ride can be arranged.
