Bob Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Concertina and Squeezebox Magaziine has been defunct for some time but whatever happened to the recordings that were produced in conjunction with the magazine? More appropriately, the publishing rights to the recordings. Bob
Chris Timson Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 (edited) I know that attempts were made to obtain the C&S archives from Joel Cowan (by Rich Morse among others) which should include the readers tapes recordings, but I don't think they came to anything. Chris Edited to add link. There was some discussion back in 2003 here. Edited April 18, 2006 by Chris Timson
Daniel Hersh Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I believe that I have a full set of these, hardly played, and would be willing to lend them for copying. From the previous thread it seems that the rights are not a problem, though it would probably be a good idea to check with Geo again before proceeding. JimLucas Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Concertina and Squeezebox Magaziine has been defunct for some time but whatever happened to the recordings that were produced in conjunction with the magazine? More appropriately, the publishing rights to the recordings. My copy of "Son of Readers" was right handy, so I checked. I found no claim of copyright on the tape, the cover, or the included track list. I believe that publication without a copyright notice makes it public domain, and people are free to copy it at will. Of course, if you copy all or part of it, others would also be free to copy your copy. Make sure you identify the individual artists and pieces, though.
Bob Tedrow Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I believe I had "Son of Readers Tape" I never had the first one. I slap wore out my copy, lent it to someone and never got it back. Capt'n Salley, give us permission to revive that piece of history?
Nanette Hooker Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I have 3 tapes, "Original Readers' Tape, "Bride of Readers' Tape", and "Son of Readers' Tape". I haven't listened to them much because the recording quality is poor. I recorded one of the track, Alf Edwards & Co (Bass & Treble English) called "A Nautical Melody" Composer unknown. I have placed the mp3 on my web page here. It's a great tune.

I haven't listened to them much because the recording quality is poor. I finally got a chance to dig my set out and (literally!) dust them off. I've got these three and one more: Revenge of Reader's Tape, which features 7 tunes by Jody Kruskal and is the only one with a copyright mark on the cassette or the case (c 1992 Concertina & Squeezebox). I've got the liner notes for all of them too. I'd still be happy to lend these for archival copying if Geo gives the ok. Daniel Edited April 23, 2006 by Daniel Hersh
