Somewhat blurry pics available here. Anyone recognize the name? Is this just a re-badged Lachenal or Jones?

They've got interesting instruments.

Are they known? Are they to be trusted?

I'd be interested in the English, and a Chemnitzer, and a Club. (I mean, not all together). Esp. the Club accordion has lots of character. Very pretty, and the price is dirt cheap. It probably needs an overhaul, but if it's generally in tune, not bad.

I bought a rosewood Lachenal from Chris Algar last year. It is badged "Manufactured for Beare & Son, 34 Rathbone Place, Oxford St, London W"

I quick internet search listed them in similar terms to Boosey & Hawkes.

I have seen 11 Lachenals with Beare & Son labels: 9 Anglos (all 20-key) and 2 English (48-key). For the earliest ones, Beare & Son had a Regent St. address; the later ones had the Oxford St. address.

The earliest English is #23414, which would have been made circa 1875. I would guess that they went out of business in the 1880s, because the highest numbered Anglo with a Beare & Son label seen by me is #80688. (Of course, this guess could be checked in the London business directories.)

I would appreciate the serial number for your 26-key.

They were at 32 Brewer St. [Regent St] until c.1881...

..then at 34 Rathbone place [Oxford St] until c.1913

..and then at 32 Rathbone place until 1975

I was looking for further information on a 48 key English Concertina, rosewood ended & name plated as

'Manufactured for Beare & Son,

103 Euston Road, London N.W.

with serial no. 19109.
