bellowbelle Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I have a (fairly) new car now and no good excuse not to get myself up to The Press Room in Portsmouth to at least listen to (even if I don't ...yet... join-in, much) some of that Sea Shanty (Chanty?) singing. I have a saved e-mail from Ken telling me times for Fridays and ... one-per-month(?) Saturdays, but that was a while ago (sorry, I never did make it then -- had many headache problems, much better now). I'm planning on making my husband come along with me, at least once. He'll probably fall asleep -- in fact, it's only 8:11 pm here and he's snoring away! But, then again, maybe the singing will help him stay awake. (He's pretty deaf and refuses to wear his hearing aid -- I give up, trying to talk to him, sometimes! Some loud sea shanties might be nice!) So, if anyone can tell me at least which Saturday it is -- the second of the month, or the third -- etc., thanks.
Tom Hall Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Hi Wendy, The monthly shanty/forebitter sessions are on the third Saturday of the month, from 3:30 to 7:30 PM, the next being on the 21st. Since last November we've been joined by a fine crew from Gloucester MA and if the Portland gang is also present, we really do make the rafters roar. This will also be the start of our fourth year. Friday night mixed bag acoustic sessions run from 4:30 to 9:00 and afford opportunities for instrumentals and songs, the latter being more prevalent toward the second half of the melee. I'm really looking forward to seeeing you again as our last meeting was, at best, fleeting. All other C-netters are most welcome. We usually have at least one English and one Anglo, sometimes many more. Happy 2006 to all -- Tom
Ken_Coles Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I sure miss both these sessions; they were one highlight of my brief residency in New England. I may get out there in June for a visit! Ken
bellowbelle Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 Thanks, Tom. I'll bring my concertina, though, not knowing any of the songs (yet?) I'll probably just enjoy listening for a while until some of them make some tracks in my memory! Yeah, Ken...hope you'll get there in June! I'm pretty sure that I'll actually make it there, this time. Previously, besides fairly persistent headaches, I had more to do in helping my daughter get back & forth to college and so on, but now she is more on her own (though, I just spent part of today with her, as a matter of fact). ...Just need something to remind me that I'm still alive and kickin' (or, should be, anyway)! And I think that my husband will enjoy hearing something for a change, heheh. (Actually, he can hear a little, but, that depends.) Looking forward to the 21st.
