Alan Day
From my early playing of the Anglo I have enjoyed playing single note base runs, mainly thumping out a base line with my little finger or my ring finger. If you have not tried it have a go. Have a stab at Constant Billy or even Chocolate Rabbit for which I started with the base run and added a tune to it.All great fun. A wonderful start to a new year and if you play softly it will not effect your hangover. Happy New Year Al

Absolutely. I'm an old dance guitar player, and on a lot of tunes I use the same bass runs I used to play on guitar. But they sound better on concertina, especially on the G/D, with those resonant low notes. I'm playing a new year's dance tonight with a clarinet player...when he takes the lead I'm doing chords and tons of bass runs. That's my idea of a good time! For anybody trying to learn this mode of playing, Alan's "chocolate rabbit" perfectly illustrates how good it can sound. Animaterra
(bounce, bounce, bounce) In comes I! Alan, it was Chocolate Rabbit that inspired me to break out of single-melody-line playing and learn some chords and bass lines. Thanks for opening new horizons for me! Rhomylly
Any chance I could hear this? It sounds like just the thing I need to get me over a very large single-melody-line-playing-only hump.
Mark Evans
Rhomylly, you will find Al's Chocolate Rabbit on the Recorded Links page, with some very nice running base lines indeed.
Rhomylly
I seem to be very stupid because I cannot find it.
Mark Evans
Not likely. To get to the recorded links page I find a post by Henk and click on the link he has listed below his name. How's that for 'round about. Al's recordings are right at the top of the listings. One of my favorites is Limey Pete. I always think of it when I'm working in my garden. The soil under my Lilacs is very acid and I hum his tune as I work in the lime with a pitchfork. Edited January 4, 2006 by Mark Evans
Alan Day
A strange coincedence Mark. I was just this minute listening to your fine archive playing on Henk`s page. It is there Rhomylly. What a great page it is I must have a listen to all those recordings. Al Edited January 4, 2006 by Alan Day
Henk van Aalten
What a great page it is. I must have a listen to all those recordings.Al Al It looks like "preaching for your own parish" (as they say in The Netherlands), but I agree with you. Up till recently I mainly visited the page to enter new tunes and of course I listened to every new entry. A few days ago however I took time to browse through the page and just listen. It is great to hear all those tunes played by C.Netters and there are real gems on this page I seem to be very stupid because I cannot find it. As Mark said, just look at my signature. B.T.W.: There are so many things that I cannot find (just ask my wife!), but I do'nt think that I am stupid (for that reason) Edited January 4, 2006 by Henk van Aalten
