bellowbelle Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 (edited) I am struck by the similarity, and contrast, between these two creatures: http://www.pbase.com/geranimom/image/51769356/large.jpg ....But, exactly what this relationship indicates, I'm not sure. Mark Evans Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Very cute Wendy. Your sense of humor always brightens my day...and this day needed it (beautifully bright outside my office but dark inside it with departmental histrionics detonating on all sides). Thank you for the relief.
Robert Booth Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I don't suppose that you tried squeezing the caterpillar to investigate further? You go first. RB
Animaterra Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Isn't "doctrine of signature" a homeopathic term? I've never seen it applied to concertinas before! Very funny picture, Wendy!
Robert Booth Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Doctrine of Signatures...Roughly, that a plant is a useful specific in treating the disorder which it most resembles, a classic example is the mandragora being used in all sorts of arcane Magick because of its resemblance to the human form.
Samantha Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Or you could wrap the concertina in silk and leave it in a dark place all winter to see if it turns into a beautiful flying creature .... but then what would you play? Samantha
bellowbelle Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 Isn't "doctrine of signature" a homeopathic term? .................... Yes....maybe my thought got lost a little in its journey to the keyboard, but....anyway...I guess the basic idea has come through! It does make me wonder if the first concertina-maker had a secret desire to turn into a butterfly....hmmm. Though, not all concertinas share the same colors as the woolly bear, as well as the push-pull aspect. Or you could wrap the concertina in silk and leave it in a dark place all winter to see if it turns into a beautiful flying creature .... but then what would you play?Samantha Funny...I do have a piece of raw silk draped over my accordion. But, that hasn't flown away, yet.... Well, if you see me flying over the trees with my concertina, you'll know I've morphed right along with it!
