I received a mail from his account soliciting money which I know he won't do. From earlier conversations, I understand I am in his address book.

Just to be thorough, is Alan in your address book?

Many thanks for this. Yes I have been hacked all over the World. I am a member of a number of organisations as well of course many friends and it looks as though this person has taken great delight in hitting all of them.

I have changed My Password,

Many thanks for your concern and posting it on here.

Nothing to be sorry about Alan, you haven't done anything wrong.

Happy Easter to everybody here! 😊

The message I got on the 4th April just asked me to confirm I'd received the email, no attachments etc, and in the style of his emails, so probably trying to determine which emails in his address book were still active. I replied that I'd got it.

But this morning I got another, which was obviously a scam, asking for cash:

I'm happy to hear back from you. Sorry to bother you with this, I need a quick favour today is my friend’s daughter’s birthday. She’s currently battling cancer, and I had promised to send her an {Airbnb eGift Card} as a birthday gift. Unfortunately, I’m not feeling well, and I’ve run into some issues trying to purchase it online myself. Would you be able to help me buy it through Tesco or Amazon? I’ll reimburse you back.

Please let me know if that’s okay, and I’ll send over her email address so the gift card can be delivered directly to her. Thanks so much I truly appreciate your help.

All the best

Al

Forging an email 'sent from address' is easy for a hacker, so beware now of any from me or any other folks here. Use the on-site PM here if you need to make contact. No blame on Al obviously!

That's the same scam text that was sent when my brother's hotmail (outlook) account was hacked recently.

The scammer inserted a rule that diverted replies into a folder so that my brother would not see them. So I suggest you check for that, Alan.

If you have a way to look at the full message headers (four of them)you'll see the email the hacker is using at the end of one of the references:

<90b49a2.674e7.19d59296e47.Webtop.119@btinternet.com>

so is probably UK based, which I wondered when I saw 'Tesco' in the message above.

My incoming messages are currently blocked, but FB and here no problems.

Not too good at the moment this is something I could do without.
