The Widow’s Party started out as a poem by Rudyard Kipling.  The Widow, of course, is Queen Victoria, the Widow at Windsor.  Back then, imperial powers like Britain would invade less developed countries, sacrificing the lives of locals and their own young soldiers to satisfy their rulers’ grandiose fantasies.  How nice that that doesn’t happen anymore.  Peter Bellamy put a tune to the poem.  I learned the song long ago, and both the tune and the lyrics have no doubt been altered in memory.  Accompanied on my recently acquired Edgley Heritage C/G Anglo concertina.
