Daniel Bradbury Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Just watched the Hallmark Hall of Fame Film presentation of Thomas Hardy's "Return of the Native" on video. Filmed about 1994. There is an English contra dance band playing which includes a concertina player. I believe it is really playing on the soundtrack. Anyone know who the band may have been, or if the concertina is an anglo or english? My screen is too small to read the credits.
JimLucas Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Funny you should mention it. Night before last the Hallmark Channel (it's on cable here in Denmark) had a version of "A Christmas Carol". I hit it by accident, so I'm not quite sure of the detailed context, but as some ghost or other gave Scrooge a look in at a partying group (of sailors?) there were a couple of brief glimpses of someone playing a concertina. Bad angles and blocking, but I think it may actually have been one of those mahogany-ended, 46-button Maccanns, rather than an anglo. (Definitely not English.) Seemed to be playing simple chords.
