Don Taylor Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) I would like to glue some fabric inside the ends of a concertina to act as a dust guard but I am not sure what to get. I am thinking about using some speaker grill cloth like this: https://www.amazon.ca/1-7mx0-5m-Speaker-Fabric-Dust-Proof-Protective/dp/B07SKZPBRR/ref=ast_sto_dp_puis Added: I have ordered one of these and will post my opinion of it when I get it - it was cheap. Edited March 16 by Don Taylor Added that I have ordered some speaker cloth.
Lappy Posted March 15 Posted March 15 The description states that it’s dust proof so that’s good. Glue it in with flour paste. That way, if it doesn’t work, it will be easy to remove.
d.elliott Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Don't forget that the fabric has to allow air movement or have a stand off from the fretted end of the instrument., 1
Paul_Hardy Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Some years ago, I went to the haberdashery and fabric department of our local department store, and picked up an offcut of a dark red artificial silk material. It's a fairly fine weave, but if i hold it up to my mouth I can breathe through it, so its not impermeable. I've used it on a couple of tinas, and it looks good and works well. I did replace some of the original little cork cubes that acted as hold-offs and stretched the cloth out, to allow some airflow under the material. 1
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted March 16 Posted March 16 There's a sort of scrim or canvas like material ( the finer grade) which may be useful and should let air through whilst stopping dust also.
wschruba Posted March 17 Posted March 17 You may find something agreeable in the "tulle" section of a fabric store. Many colours/textures available, from demure blacks and browns, to silver/marbled metallics. 1
