Richard Mellish Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I've just had an odd fault on my Koot Brits. Three buttons were going down without any note sounding. I found that the pads had stuck to the action plate but the buttons could still go down because it has hook action, so the middle of the lever could move towards the action plate. I surmise that some glue had crept from where it should be, holding the layers of the pads together, and was sticking the bottom layers of the pads to the action plate. I have freed them, but the pads have come apart. I would prefer to stick them back together if possible than have to order new pads from someone. What glue is recommended?
Tiposx Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Any glue except runny stuff like thin superglue. I would use Titebond, PVA or fish glue as those set quickly enough. It is likely to be a temporary fix though...
jkmelb Posted March 14 Posted March 14 I have used PVA glue to fix pads that came apart. It worked well. No problems so far.
John Sylte Posted March 14 Posted March 14 If your feeling crafty, I've made replacement pads of my own with double-sided foamy sticky tape, the kind used to put posters on walls and such. I have pigskin suede on hand from other projects, so I stick that to one side of the tape, and heavy card stock to the other, then use a metal punch to extract perfect circles. I repadded a 20 button Lachenal this way about 12 years ago, and the pads are still holding up. 1
