klaustukast Posted February 24 Posted February 24 G5 note on my beaumont sounds weird when i pull the bellows. There's this "pop" sounds and the reed becomes louder. I think its a valve issue, but I don't know if I should just try to replace it or try to re-glue it. Thanks in advance. Uploaded the sound file and a picture of the reed/valve. Feb 24 at 22-07.m4a
malcolm clapp Posted February 25 Posted February 25 The valve on the second reedplate from the left (is that a G5???) looks a bit too short for the job, and possibly non-original. Suggest you replace that valve and see if it improves the situation before delving more deeply.
klaustukast Posted February 25 Author Posted February 25 Yes the valve with the hole is the G5, I should have been a bit more specific. The leather still seems ok(feels flexible/soft), If I moved the valve up a bit, it might be enough to fully cover the hole. I don't have any replacement valves. Is there a forum post with valve seller sites on Europe? Are accordion valves fine if they are correct dimensions ? Should I buy some hide glue or is household PVA "good enough"?
Tiposx Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Accordion valves are what you already have on the other reeds. The reed in question is also an accordion reed, just a different type, and it is the wrong size. You can use a dab of contact glue e.g. Bostick. I don't think that a water soluble glue like hide glue wouid stick well to the aluminium or the plastic involved in this job. If you could unglue that naughty valve, and re-attach it so that it covered the hole at the base, near where the rivet is, that would probably stop the unwanted noise effects. The resulting gap at the tip end wouldn't have the same effect, it would make the reed less air efficient though. You might not even notice it in practice.
Don Taylor Posted February 25 Posted February 25 If there is an accordion repairer/shop anywhere near you then take it in to them and they will probably be able to fix it while you wait.
