Guest
Hi all A short review (with lots of photos!) is now up at my new website: www.ptollemy.com I've also started a Concertina CD review web page [which is intended to complement not compete with the one here - Paul has already given me his blessing ] A massive task which will probably be a permanent work-in-progress, at the moment I am concentrating on getting up basic details such as cover art and track listings. At present most in my collection are mainly Anglo solo, duo or trio based, and but I hope to branch out into listings for English/Duet as well as bands such as Providence, Teada etc as my collection grows. Here is a list of the concertina CDs I have at present; if you have any that I don't have (or isn't listed on the music page on this site), I would really appreciate a posting here just to let me know the artist and album title, so I can add them to list of CDs to track down: - Terry Bingham: Traditional Music from Doolin, Co. Clare - Mick Bramich: The Irish Concertina - Ger and Martha Clancy: Paper Bird - Jack and Charlie Coen: - The Branch Line - Tim Collins: Dancing on Silver - Gerard Commane & Joe Ryan: Two Gentlemen of Claire Music - Elizabeth Crotty: Concertina Music from West Clare - Cathy Custy: An Ceoltoir Fanach - Chris Droney: The Fertile Rock - Kitty Hayes: A Touch of Clare - Hugh and Colm Healy: Macalla na hOige - Noel Hill: The Irish Concertina - Noel Hill: The Irish Concertina 2 - Noel Hill: Noel Hill and Tony Linnane - Noel Hill & Tony MacMahon: I GCnoc Na Grai - Claire Keville, John Wier & Eithne Ni Dhonaile: An Tri is a Rian - Mary MacNamara: Traditional Music from East Clare - Mary MacNamara: The Blackberry Blossom - Mary MacNamara and Andrew MacNamara: Open Hearth - Jacqueline McCarthy: The Hidden Note - Tommy McCarthy: Sporting Nell - Gearoid O hAllmhurain: Traditional Music from Clare and Beyond - Gearoid O hAllmhurain & Parick Oureau: Tracin' - Michael O Raghallaigh: The Nervous Man - Tony O'Connell & Andy Morrow (With Arty McGlynn) : Self-titled - Jason O'Rouke: The Bunch of Keys - Jason O'Rouke: Rogery Road - Bernard O'Sullivan and Tommy McMahon: Clare Concertinas - Brian Peters: Anglophilia - Padraig Rynne: Bye a while - Niall Vallely: Concertina CD Rom Tutorial - Niall & Callan Vallely: Callan Bridge - Niall Vallely: Beyond Words - Various: Anglo International - John Williams: (Self titled) - John Williams: Steam I'd also eventually like to add a cross reference of tracks to albums (but that is a longer term thing). See, insomnia can be a productive thing Cheers, Morgana [Edited to correct spelling errors - Thanks Jim ] Edited October 29, 2005 by Morgana
Animaterra
What a list of cds, Morgana- very impressive! I'm impressed with your site, too. Easy to navigate, quick to get to the pages, even with my antiquated land-line connection!
Jamie Boorer
Thanks for the photos, Morgana. Very atmospheric - almost like being there! - James.
Henrik Müller
...See, insomnia can be a productive thing [Edited to correct spelling errors - Thanks Jim ] Hi, Morgana - I wish I could be that productive when I can't sleep! Great list - lots of CDs I have, lots of CDs I plan to "get around to". But I am happy to be able to add an item to the list: Noel Hill, Tony McMahon, Iarla O Lionaird (Sean Nos singing): "Aislingí Ceoil - Music of Dreams" Great stuff - live concert, dancers 'n all, with the roof lifting! Highly recommended. Enjoyed your Arran report and photos, though something goes bad on the "More photos can be found here"-link - I seem to end up at the internet provider with a "Sorry, but the page or the file that you're looking for is not here."-message. Can't wait to see the other photos! /Henrik
Daniel Bradbury
Hey Morgana, Don't forget: Music from Sliab Luachra - Jackie Daly The early Chieftains recordings with Michael Tubridy Generations with Bertram Levy (very rare) Edited October 29, 2005 by Daniel Bradbury

Guest Peter Laban
Off the top of my head : there's another Bernard O Sullivan/Tommy McMahon though possibly cassette re-issue only (I have it somewhere in the house) . Jackie McCarthy and Tommy Keane : the Wind among the Reeds. Certainly don't forget Packie Russell (on the Russell family album). If you want to include lp recordings the concertina styles one should be in there and most certainly John Kelly. There are several compilation albums including fine concertinaplayers: Ceol na mBan (Mary McNamara, Dympna O Sullivan etc), Lisseycasey GAA (Dympna O'Sullivan and others), Sanctuary sessions (Dympna again) etc Custy's has all of those. And in the pipes/concertina duet department look out for the upcoming Kitty Hayes/Peter Laban one: 'We'll be good yet' Edited October 30, 2005 by Peter Laban
Henrik Müller
...I would really appreciate a posting here just to let me know the artist and album title, so I can add them to list of CDs to track down: Yes, yes, of course! How could I forget! Jackie Daly's "Music from Sliab Luachra Vol.6" - a daily practice source! (CD) And with the risk of not having read the list carefully enough: "Irish Traditional Concertina Styles", Topic/Free Reed 12TFRS506 The second B.O'Sullivan/T. McMahon record is: "Bernard O'Sullivan, Tommy McMahon Play Irish Traditional Music of County Clare" Topic/FreeReed 12TFRS505 - but we aren't really talking CDs anymore, are we? I don't know if any of those are re-issued as CDs. /Henrik
Henk van Aalten
A short review (with lots of photos!) is now up at my new website: www.ptollemy.com Morgana, Thanks for the review and the extra photo's. It's fun to see myself (sort of) dancing.
Guest
- but we aren't really talking CDs anymore, are we? I don't know if any of those are re-issued as CDs. I think it would still be useful to have a list of what has been released over the years, whether it's vinyl, cassette, etc. For example I'm tracked down a source for Chris Droney's "Irish Dance Music" that is cassette on. Perhaps I should change the name to "Concertina Recording reviews" RE Chris Droney - I've come a source (session.org) that listed Chris Droney's "Irish Dance Music" and his album "The Flowing Tide" as having identical track listings. Does anyone know if this correct? Cheers Morgana
Padraigin
Nigel and I enjoyed looking at the Morgana's excellent review and photos and especially the clip us doing the "Sailor's Song" shown to us by Jill. Would it be possible to have the words? Patricia
Paul Read
Morgana, Are you aiming at concertina music or limited to Irish concertina music? There are a couple of exceptions (e.g. Brian Peters), but there must be lot of others missing (Keith Kendrick being one that springs to mind). Guest
Are you aiming at concertina music or limited to Irish concertina music? Hi Paul, I would really like to widen it to all concertina music. At the moment the page has a slant towards Irish concertina music as this is what I play, and thus tend to collect. I think it would be really useful to have a listing of as many styles/recordings as possible so that people like me can learn just how diverse it all really is. Eventually as the page expands I will start listing the material in categories by style (i.e. Irish, Morris etc), and whilst I know I can't possible hope to get a copy of every concertina recording every made I can certainly try! Cheers Morgana
Alan Day
This could become a massive project if you were including all music with concertinas included. All John Kirkpatricks Cds,bands with concertinas in,I can think of many UK bands that include a concertina. Or were you just thinking in terms of solo playing which would be more managable? Guest
I'll probably mainly concentrate on solo/duo/trios that include a concertina, with a short text list of bands and their albums (no track listings or reviews) and any links to the above I can find. It is probably a massive task in case, but one that I think is definitely worth it.
Robin Madge
It's a bit difficult to decide what is a concertina album as opposed to one that just has some concertina on it, so I'll just give you a list of what I have and let you do all the hard work of eliminating the ones that don't fit, if that's all right! Some of these are solo artists, quite a few duos and trios and some bands. Some I have as CDs, some as LPs and some as Cassettes. There will be several other albums not listed here from some of these artists. Chris Timson
Of course I should, very tentatively, mention our own CD, Peaceful Harbour, with me on anglo and my partner Anne Gregson on English. Chris
