Hello, I am totally new to the anglo concertina (not to music) and i just received my wren 2 deluxe from mcneela - one problem: the straps are super thin, i ordered replacements that look much better, but the thing that goes into the strap holes wont stay down - i choose the right hole for my size of hands, and push down the pointy clip (cant find the right word for it) and as soon as i open the belows even slightly it goes up, changing the size of the strap i choose (making it looser) and after a few notes the point just goes out of the hole! i enclose a photo - any suggestion most most welcome! Those straps will snap soon, they are bad quality, the replacement are on their way but I have to solve this current problem because i want to play with my new toy! Many many thanks

I worked on a 1950’s Wheatstone Mayfair recently that had very similar fittings to yours, and very thin straps. I found that to make the assembly work I had to pull the strap tail up firmly, to locate the tang fully past its widest part, and into the hole. Then I put pressure on the strap as if putting my hand into the playing position. This pulled the fitting into a secure position.

I’m going to try that! So push the sharp tip down and pull the strap up at the sale time so the strap makes a V turn at the sharp tip? Bur I’m afraid i dont understand the last part: do you pull both parts of the strap one way so the sharp tip really goes deep? β€˜-(Sorry english is not my first language)

I’m having fun, it’s really strange getting some notes on pulls and some on push - coming from the violin it’s counter intuitive which is exactly what i wanted: i wanted to be pushed out of mu comfort zone by a new instrument, and i love the sound of the concertina

Yes make sure that the tip (of the tang) as far as it will go, then pull both parts if the strap away from the hand rest take up the slack. That doesn't need to be a harsh movement, it just needs to firmly locate the tang in the hole.

You will know when it feels right. The shiny side of the leather will be further in towards the chromed steel of the buckle, possibly touching.

I don't think that there is any fault in the assembly, it just needs that tug to set the tang.
