I am selling a Morse Céilí Anglo C/G 30-button concertina, serial number 141. The instrument is in very good condition and plays and sounds wonderful. The case is also still very good. I bought it here in the forum in 2024 and played it mostly everyday. I am advancing and switching to a concertina with brass reeds.

Price: 2100€IMG_20260104_103318.thumb.jpg.394931bf155d987b94422be578a165e9.jpg

I'm located in Vienna Austria/Europe. I don't know the building date of the Morse. There are a lot of posts here concerning the Morse Ceili, it will be possible to estimate production date. It shows signs of use, but looks and plays wonderful.

Thank you for your help, I will have a look inside!

I did some research and found out that the Morse Ceili with Nr. 133 was built in 1999-2000. The instrument is in perfect working order. I also had it inspected by my accordion maker, who confirmed its high quality and proper functionality. The bellows are airtight, the leather is in excellent condition, and the mechanisms are smooth and the reeds are responsive. The instrument has been well cared for and shows no defects other than normal signs of use.

If you open it up the date is normally written inside

I did open it and on the one side I looked inside found no date.

I bought (and still own) Céilí number 036 in January 2001 from another player who had owned it for a few months. Before that it went from Button Box to Chris Algar, of all places, who sold it back to the first owner in the U.S. Depending how long all that took, I could imagine it being made in the first half of 2000, give or take half a year.

A fine instrument - I've been hammering on it for a quarter century (more than any other concertina I have) and it still plays great.

Perhaps we should ask Doug Crieghton if he is willing to share a serial number time line.

My heart feels a little heavier after reading your post and some part of me wants to keep it. Yes the Morse is a fine instrument and although playing it at the seaside, in warm or colder weather, the Morse was reliable. My new concertina reeded instrument had after only a few weeks already two little issues after exposing to temperature and humidity changes.
