Squatch Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Anyone know of a source for replacement straps? Ordered some online and what I received looks like they were cut with dull shears and holes punched with a nail. Including a picture of the website image as well Image from website
jkmelb Posted January 21 Posted January 21 The website image you are showing looks like the straps offered by NcNeela Music on their website... https://mcneelamusic.com/concertina-straps/ I have ordered from McNeela before and the straps that were delivered are what's on their website. Do you think they just sent you the wrong type, i.e. a simple strap vs. the more expensive option? 1
Squatch Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 It wasn't from Mcneela, it was from a PJmusic. But I went and looked at Mcneela and it's the exact same picture. Maybe the other site is using pictures from Mcneela
SIMON GABRIELOW Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Why not see if you can source leather from a cobblers or similar ( yes they do still exist!)..or leather shop. I once got a length cut from a cobblers leather shop and finished the rest of the process myself ( it was for button accordion). 2
Squatch Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Thanks y'all, I'll just end up making some myself. Between Vat and return shipping it's kinda pointless to return it.
AndyNT Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Please, definitely complain to the vendor, PJMusic. Those straps are clearly not as advertised in the picture, and ordered. It is his error and he should correct it by either sending the correct straps or refunding your money. If he asks for the other straps back, then that will be at his cost not yours. Letting vendors off the hook doesn't help any of us.
Wally Carroll Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Just an aside . . . I would avoid straps with stitching as the stitches can prevent the leather from stretching to conform better to your hands. 1
wschruba Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Stitching for no reason should definitely be avoided. I used stitches to laminate two pieces of leather, a thicker piece of "belt blank", and a piece of buckskin that I have a box of for piano repair/etc. First glued the two pieces together with hide glue, flesh-to-flesh, then cut out and stitched. The buckskin is soft enough that the stitches melt into it, while the harder leather can have a stitching graver run over the edge to recess them. The net effect--fairly successful for what I was trying to achieve--is a less bulky padded strap. The buckskin does a good job managing moisture, while keeping your skin off direct flesh contact. It's fairly comfortable to play for a few hours at a go, while having a reassuring "solidness" provided by the more substantial leather. 1
hjcjones Posted January 25 Posted January 25 They don't look like any of the straps on PJs website. Even the cheaper option has stitching. You have a right of return, and as the items are nit as described I would expect them to pay the return postage.
