Anglo Staccato/stutter

Hi all,

i've been playing/practicing for about 2.5 years now,(by myself) and slowly getting more proficient. i should order the cd-rom tutorial out there as i may never get to a live teaching event. i can do the grace notes and some rolls, but the 'stuttering staccato' of doubling,(or tripling) the same note escapes me. many recording artists do this as a common embellishment, although the simpler but subtle Clare Co. style does not. i have a hunch it is the same button using the same or different fingers combined with a very rapid bellows action. if any advanced musician would care to attempt to describe the technique i would be so grateful. thanks much. wes.

My brother does it by changing fingers (keeping the same bellows direction). I think normally using 3 fingers - either 3-2-1 or 1-2-3, but I'm not sure which - it's not a bellows thing. He has an oldish Anglo (maybe Jones) that happens to have wider buttons (maybe 5mm diameter?) than what you often find on concertinas, and I guess this makes it easier.

Thank you for the feedback. I actually have a lachenal with the smaller bone buttons which equals larger space between buttons. i have large hands/fingers so this may make the techniques workable since i have been trying on a modern delrin button model. the link that was posted gives me loads of practice ideas. btw, i never have liked the sound of the repeated note/different button sound. off to practice now. (my spouse is at work)

Watching Jackie Daly many years ago he does this by putting one finger over the other and rolls the fingers over the button creating two fast notes. He also then(we are talking about twenty years ago) did not use many fingers to play, moving his hand about the Melodion and my concertina at speed.

I had never heard anyone play a concertina so fast until recently hearing Nial Vallely in fifth gear.
