Morgana Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I know some excellent work has been done on the very early concertina recordings, but is there a discography of concertina recordings from the late 20th century onwards? I'm always on the lookout for concertina albums, and have a nice growing collection of CDs and the old vinyl. Has anyone started this kind of discography and if not if there any interest? I'd be happy to get it started. Happy belated 2026 Morgana
Alan Day Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Hallo Morgana an interesting point. There are of course recent recordings that go up on a regular basis on the Videos and recordings section here ,but what concerns me is there are no recordings of performers and groups/bands 50s 60s or earlier, that do not appear mainly because of fears of cutting across recorded music and copyright problems ie. cassettes, records and CDs . I have some old recordings that were surplus to requirements when I put Anglo and English International together and I will be approaching a few of the players to see if I can put the recordings here. I shall also be asking other players here if they have any old recordings (probably live) that we can add to them. We are kicking this off with some Raphael recordings if they are OK. These will be posted up in a new section on this site that has been agreed by the Web controllers. I will report back. Al 2
Morgana Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 Hi Alan, l look forward to hearing how you go. The Anglo and English International sets are exceptional. l was thinking more of a list that could be updated; lm always looking for more CDs etc to add to my collection. I know l would find a list helpful and wondered if others would too. 😊
Alan Day Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Thanks for your comments Morgana. You could start with Morris On and Son of Morris on. Anything by John kirkpatrick. Al
wes williams Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I moderate at the https://www.45cat.com/ site, which covers all types of music media. A search for 'concertina' there will point you to many recordings. 1
hjcjones Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I would imagine there is a vast number, especially if you include albums which feature concertinas as part of a band lineup. If you include those, I can offer my own band Albireo's albums Northern Cross and Binary, which feature both Anglo and English concertinas, although not on all tracks and not always as lead instrument: https://albireo.bandcamp.com/album/binary Can I also suggest The Compleat Anglo by Chas Marshall, and The Passing Moment by Roger Digby and Liz Giddings. 1
MarkvN Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Nice idea! Here is a similar initiative for harmonica music (with the exception of blues, jazz, classical, and pop). I didn't post it on concertina.net because it only contains a few concertina performances (with the notable exception ofsome house concerts by Rick Epping), but perhaps it can serve as a source of inspiration? https://www.youtube.com/@HarmonicaHeaven_1 https://bandcamp.com/harmonica_heaven Do you want to include other styles, such as South African boeremusiek? In that case your list could double, if you put the necessary elbow grease into it... I have an unsorted list of albums & other links that I will PM you. I don't have the time to sort it out myself I'm afraid, but do with it as you like... 1

Please throw anything you have my way, happy to sort through over time. Thank you
